The Valley, Anguilla, October 28, 2014 (Department of Disaster Management) - As part of the CDEMA sponsored Mainstreaming Climate Change in Disaster Management Project Phase II (CCDM-II) the Department of Disaster Management (DDM) is holding a workshop with the Island Harbour/ East End Community Response Teams. The workshop is being held at the Vivien Vanterpool Primary School and will be over the period Wednesday 29th October to Tuesday 4th November.

Although aimed at the Island Harbour/East End Community the workshop is open to all interested persons throughout the Island who are interested to attend.

By the end of this workshop, participants will be able to:
- Explain the main causes of global Climate Change and describe the likely impacts on the Caribbean region, Anguilla and the community.
- Explain how Climate Change adaptation and Disaster Risk Reduction are linked.
- Identify ways in which they can increase their community’s resilience to Climate Change.
- Identify and apply tools to integrate Climate Change considerations into the community’s disaster risk reduction plan and develop a plan of action for Climate Change adaptation.
- Identify indicators of successful Climate Change adaptation and building of community resilience.
- Identify ways in which community members can explain the impacts of Climate Change to others, including lobbying policy makers for necessary actions.
- Access a wide range of resources to build on the skills and knowledge developed during the workshop.
The workshop will be facilitated by the Department of Disaster Management and CDEMA Project Staff and is funded by a grant from the Austrian Development Agency.
