Bridgetown, Ӱ March 17th, 2021 (CDEMA) -The CDEMA Coordinating Unit is hosting a two-week workshop with disaster management personnel in preparation for the development of the National Relief and Logistics Management Plan and Policy. The existing multi-hazard environment has created a need for clear policy directives, supported by legislation, to strengthen humanitarian response across the region.
Speaking at the opening ceremony on March 9, 2021, Executive Director (ag) of CDEMA Elizabeth Riley said, “The architects of the Agreement Establishing CDEMA understood that humanitarian relief and logistics are essential components of the disaster management architecture of CDEMA Participating States. Successive hazard impacts in our Participating States have exposed the vulnerability of our supply chains.” Riley acknowledges partners such the World Food Programme who have assisted the agency in crisis times, and envisions that such partnerships along with innovation, people and preparedness will increase the efficiency of the supply chain.
Programme Manager at CDEMA Joanne Persad encouraged attendees to bring new ideas to solve current challenges of emergency management, to attain the ultimate goal of effectively meeting the needs of persons in the region. “Use this workshop as one step forward towards strengthening your National Disaster Management system…your input and your discussion are critical to making it a success in establishing the National Disaster Management Plan.”
Personnel from the four Sub-Region Focal Points of Ӱ, Trinidad, Jamaica and Antigua and Barbuda alongside The Bahamas are represented at the workshop. Attendees will be engaged in the topics of First Mile Logistics, Warehousing, Transportation and Last Mile Logistics. The workshop falls under the Regional Logistics and Relief Management Programme approved in 2019 and will conclude on March 23rd, 2021.
CDEMA is hosting the virtual workshop, which falls under the Regional Logistics and Relief Management Programme, over a two-week period in March.
