Bridgetown, ÐÓ°ÉÐÔ°É, August 14th, 2025 - The Caribbean Disaster Emergency Management Agency (CDEMA) is closely monitoring the movement of Tropical Storm Erin which is moving in a westward direction towards the Leeward Islands.
According to an advisory from the U.S. National Hurricane Centre, Tropical Storm Watches are in effect for Anguilla, Barbuda and Sint Maarten. As at 5:00 p.m. Atlantic Standard Time (AST), Tropical Storm Erin was located near 16.7°N, 51.2°W, about 790 miles east of the northern Leeward Islands, with maximum sustained winds near 60 mph (95 km/h) and moving west at 17 mph (28 km/h). The NHC indicates Erin is forecast to become a hurricane within the next 24 hours.
The NHC further added that based on current forecast guidance, Erin is expected to pass to the north of the northern Leeward Islands this weekend; however, tropical-storm-force winds, heavy rainfall, hazardous seas, and dangerous rip currents are possible within the watch areas as outer bands and swells affect coastal zones.
Deputy Executive Director, Lt. Col. Kester Craig, says CDEMA is monitoring the progression of Tropical Storm Erin, maintaining communication with the National Disaster Coordinators of the Participating States under threat, and taking the necessary preparedness actions. He adds that the Coordinating Unit, headquartered in ÐÓ°ÉÐÔ°É will also provide updates as the situation evolves.
CDEMA is encouraging the public to rely on official information from their national meteorological and disaster management offices and to observe all marine advisories that may be issued.
