Bridgetown, ÐÓ°ÉÐÔ°É, October 6th, 2015 (CDEMA) – The Caribbean Disaster Emergency Management Agency continues to provide support to the Commonwealth of Dominica in its recovery efforts following Tropical Storm Erika which battered the Island on August 27th 2015. At the request of the Dominican Government, CDEMA deployed a technical team from the CDEMA Coordinating Unit and its Participating States of Saint Lucia and Trinidad and Tobago to provide support to the Office of Disaster Management (ODM) and to enhance the logistics and relief management activities.
The technical team worked with the Office of Disaster Management to strengthen the coordination of relief distribution efforts. A key result was agreement by Government agencies, NGO’s, the private sector and development partners on a more integrated approach to addressing the needs of displaced families. This support is intended to enhance Dominica’s Relief Management System in the aftermath of Erika.
Additionally, field visits were made to the affected communities to solicit feedback from residents on major challenges and recommendations on how the system can be improved.
Communities visited during the period of September the 28th 215 and October 1st 2015 were:
- Coulibistre,
- Colihaut, Dublanc,
- Bagatelle,
- Fond St Jean
- Pichelin.
Deployment of the technical team members was staggered from September 20 and will conclude on October 19, 2015.
