Bridgetown, ÐÓ°ÉÐÔ°É August 31st, 2019 (CDEMA) – As the Northern Islands of the Commonwealth of the Bahamas brace for the pending impact of Hurricane Dorian, the Agency has once again taken the lead to coordinate the Regional Response Mechanism (RRM) in support of this Participating State.
CDEMA Participating States will soon have at their fingertips a Model National Multi-Hazard Early Warning System (MHEWS) Policy and Adaptation Guide that will provide guidance on the treatment of early warning systems across multiple hazards, the four pillars required for fully integrated systems and the integration of gender. This tool is expected to be available by January, 2020 with the support of consultant Mr. Jeremy Collymore who will undertake extensive consultations with stakeholders at the regional, national, local and sectoral levels as well as with civil society and private sectors organisations to inform policy.
 CDEMA is a supporter of the use of analytical research to inform our practices and firmly believes that using scientific methods can be useful to improve regional disaster preparedness capacity in the Caribbean. Following this, CDEMA has established a collaboration with researchers from HEC Montréal and Özyeğin University in Istanbul to develop innovative approaches to improve its current regional prepositioning network, considering logistical infrastructures and disaster risks.
