SITUATION OVERVIEW
As at 5:00 p.m. Hurricane Erin with a current intensity of 105 mph has shifted to a north-northwestward track, reducing the likelihood of direct wind or rainfall impacts on the Turks and Caicos Islands (TCI) and The Bahamas. However, Erin’s expanded wind field means these areas remain exposed to indirect hazards, particularly along coastal zones. The primary concern for TCI and The Bahamas is life threatening surf, rip currents, and large swells which are expected to persist over the coming days. While the direct threat of strong winds and heavy rainfall has lessened, hazardous marine conditions could still cause beach erosion, coastal flooding, and dangerous swimming conditions. Residents and visitors are advised to heed guidance from local authorities and warning systems.
